One of the things I came up with during my dirt therapy today was a way to make rank (Duke, Queen, etc.) more than bragging rights as well as a way to make bots less stupid, or at least more responsive. I'm looking at you, Ranger running in place on Ore with a yellow ! over your head.
You can customize a Buddy with specific commands: default behaviours like how close to stay to you and how aggressively to pursue targets, reactive behaviours like running away at low Health or line-healing you when you're low, and command behaviours like staying put when you 'Good Job!' or sheild turtling near you when you say 'Help!' Where rank comes in is dependant on how many bots you'll need to fill your team; say it's three on a 12 player team. The three highest ranked players have their Buddies with them as bots. It's an advantage for them sure, but Buddies aren't nessesarily coded only to help their creator, and it makes sense to have the most experienced players be the ones commanding the bots. They're nobles right? Unless there's too many nobles around (full team) they'll bring their lackies. Uh, Buddies.
Further, I don't like how the current rank system is a flat rate. Play this much, score this much, get this rank. It should be teirs, so like the top 15% are Lords and Ladies, the top 3% are Kings and Queens, etc. In the event of tied ranks, THEN we can go to total score or games played or won or whatever. This way being the King really does mean you're top tier, not just a frequent player.
