We will be using Unity as our game engine. Additional plugins may be required. If so, I'll list them here. I'd like to hear from the artists as far which tools they're using so everyone is on the same page.

I know I said that the main thread will be heavily regulated and usually locked, but feel free to comment and suggest as you please in the subthreads such as this one. That way we'll get as much input as possible before adding it to the main thread.

Looking at Player.IO for our MMO needs. It has a free plan up to 500 concurrent users. Good enough to get development going. There's an SDK for Unity as well so integration should be straight forward. Will try it out later. Also looking at Kongregate to publish the game. I'll make a separate thread regarding platforms, but I'll mention it here that the Web will most likely be our first platform.

Kongregate looks alright but if we make this Mobile I think we should add a lot of character customization, maybe even as the main hub before going into battle. Games on your personal device should be personal. I know I'm making a code chore but we can make different sets of armor, maybe even belts. If any of these have some advantage that's cool too, but not needed. When joining a game your armor would be rendered in color according to team.
Sorry to get off topic
Player.IO looks good though!

Kong is awesome. Yesyesyes. Win that monthly prize, baby!
Fangasm aside (I've been gaming on Kong for years as Skruntoo) Kongregate should meet our needs whether we go browser or mobile. Their mobile options are relatively new, but seem workable. Of course, the Code Team would understand what's required better than I would.

I went over the protocolls of Kongregate with JR a while ago, and the key point we came up with was that you can submit games freely so long as they don't contain microtransactions. You need a license of some sort with them for that. There are also some advertisement and distribution options that are interesting. Even if we don't pay for anything, we can still get some cash and more importantly recognition if we do well in their weekly/monthly competitions for new games. Further, they're compatable with Unity and it's pretty easy to parse in their site's API so that they can add some acheivements if the game is popular. You know how people like dem 'chieves.

For music: Fruity Loops Studio + various external audio plugins
It doesn't make much of a difference what sequencer you use for music though. It's all in how well you make it

We were hoping he'd be collaborating with you doing the music.

He's a musician, mentioned it on facebook and offered to help. Haven't seen him around though, guess it was hollow. Oh well...

I think you said he played sax or something. I could use some sax in the soundtrack, but even then there wouldn't be any recording until the final stages
